The aim of the course is to prepare students to write an exceptional master thesis. The topics discussed during the seminars are numerous methods of quantitative macroeconomic analysis, including an overview of numerical and computational methods and the modeling of: business cycles, labor markets, wealth and income inequality, monetary policy, economic growth. The seminar is intended for final year students. The class is passed upon delivering the thesis |

The aim of the seminar is to familiarize the students with numerical and computational methods of modeling selected macroeconomic phenomena and to prepare them to be able to write the master thesis. The thesis may base on the applied use of one of the following quantitiative macroeconomic models: - General Equilibrium Models, including the models of business cycles and overlapping generations. - Search and matching model of the labor market. - Models of wealth and income inequality. - Monetary policy within a New Keynesian framework. - Models of frictions in the housing and financial markets. - Models of economic growth. The first classes will be devoted to the discussion of selected quantitative macroeconomic models. The following classes will be devoted to student’s presentations on their progress in preparing their theses. |

Literature positions will be tailored individually for each student, based on their research interests. |

After completing the seminar, the student: KNOWLEDGE Knows the methods and tools used in the quantitative macroeconomic analysis and the methods of acquiring relevant data. Knows the limitations of the methods presented at the seminar. Knows how to formulate research questions and to state hypotheses, knows how to conduct research for the purposes of preparing the master thesis. Knows how to work with the literature and empirical data. Knows the formal requirements for the master thesis. SKILLS Can critically review the literature, the authors’ viewpoints and to analyze the sources. Can work with empirical data. Can formulate the research objective, state hypotheses and then select the appropriate data and methods of analysis to verify the stated hypotheses. Can build an economic model derived from the optimization problems of the agents, basing on the leading positions in the literature. Can synthesize obtained results and derive appropriate conclusions. Can present the results of his/her work in the form of a scientific paper, conforming to the formal requirements. SOCIAL SKILLS Understands the need for perpetual self-improvement and self-study. Can acquire and broaden his/her knowledge on their own. Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
The grade for the first semester will be based on the students’ presentations on their progress in writing the thesis. The grade for the second semester will be equivalent to the grade of the submitted thesis |
